Debt Counseling Clearwater

There are many debt counseling companies throughout the Clearwater area.  Often they will tell you that they are able to reduce the total debt you owe, or reduce all your debts into one convenient low monthly payment.  In some cases, this can be true and helpful.  However, in many cases, either the payment plan is not completed, all debts are not able to be consolidated, or other problems arise.  As with all processes, nothing with debt counseling is guaranteed.

Further, since the debt counseling company you are dealing with is not an attorney, there is often little credible threat to the lenders.  They think that this may be just another scheme on your part, when in fact they feel you are attempting to evade their collection activity, and therefore the lenders will ignore debt consolidation attempts and not cooperate with the consolidation company that you’ve hired. However, when you actually hire a Bankruptcy Attorney to handle these debts, and consolidate your debts, then there is the credible threat of a possible bankruptcy if they do not cooperate with you in resolving your debt issues.

Not only is our firm able to complete bankruptcy for you, we are also able to negotiate with your lenders and attempt to consolidate your debts.  However, timing is key.  If you come to us too late in the process, and lawsuits have already been filed, then realistically it may be too late to consolidate your debts.

Beware of companies that treat credit consolidation as a simple and guaranteed process.  This is certainly not the case.  These are likely scams, and should be avoided.

Call us today for more information, and to consult with a knowledgeable attorney about your issues.

The federal government passed new bankruptcy reform legislation in October 2005. However, don't be discouraged! Most studies indicate that the new law affects less than 15% of individuals who could have filed previously. If you are feeling overwhelmed by your debts and considering filing bankruptcy, it is highly probable that you fall into the category of the 85 percent of people who are still eligible to file.
